End of the Year

I had my last final yesterday, the dreaded econ. And you know what? It
didn't go so bad. I think I get why people study now, interesting. But
during the test I had this immense feeling of excitement for it to be over,
and nervousness that I couldn't stop. While I was taking the test, a
thunder storm was raging outside and it felt like the walls were shaking. I
couldn't help thinking that this had to be some sort of omen.

I finished the test about fifty minutes early and walked into the pouring
rain outside. I was so happy to be over that I literally sang in the rain,
it was brilliant. Everyone I met on the way home happily greeted me, I'm
sure also feeling the cleansing joy of rain and the elation of the end of
finals.

When I got back to my room I was soaked, the river running down the hill
from the union was too large to jump so my pants and shoes were drenched, I
looked like a drowned cat. Not that I cared, I couldn't get the smile off
my face.

Around 9:30pm Jose came straight from work to my place for a little end of
the year celebration. Which in our case consisted of hair dying and Chinese
food. What else? It was tons of fun, though I think we annoyed my
suitemates a little. But I couldn't care less.

So right now I am attempting to pack, but I have no motivation. I think I
deserve a little break before I have to leave. It would have been nice to
go to DC and spend the whole day museum hopping and maybe the zoo (next year
Jose). But this is going to be a great summer, I have a feeling.
Goodbye friends, goodbye Maryland, thank you for a fabulous year and
I can't wait till the next.

Argh

Insert screaming here____

With that said, finals are going well. This has been the only hour I have
had to sit in my room and chill in a while. My new home is McKeldin
library, floor 4M. From morning till about midnight we sit in the library
attempting to absorb knowledge that has evaded us for a whole semester.
hmmmm, strike that, reverse it.

I had three exams so far, with only the most difficult to go tomorrow, econ.
If I don't score at least an 81 on it I will get a C in the class and
ultimately be booted out of the government department for stupidity.
Pleasant. Oh well, I can only do my best. Now I am off to bed. If I am
not online, or answering my phone, check the library. But only till
tomorrow night, cause after that, celebrations will ensue and I will be
packing to leave Maryland.

Formal

This is how PAD formal went down last night.

Annie and I are sunbathing on the mall, doing my nails and talking when it
looks like the sky is going to open up and pour on us. We gather up our
stuff and head in opposite directions for our dorms since I don't want my
hair to get rained on. We decided to meet up in an hour when she will drive
over to my place to go to CVS for a camera. I get back to my dorm and get a
call from L in my frat saying for me to get dressed and we are going to meet
at Bentley's for dinner before formal. Okay, so I throw on my dress and we
head over to Bentley's (I have practiced the whole outfit so many times, I
can get dressed in a minute now). After a kind of uncomfortable dinner with
people I don't know very well, we drive over to the Union where there are
Shuttle UM busses waiting to drive us to the Bethesda Marriott.

A hotel person led us all down this small hallway with rooms, and into a
long room with about five tables. I think everyone was pretty disappointed,
thought it would be a lot bigger, but after a few drinks and people moved
out to the dance floor, it didn't seem that bad. The DJ was pretty lame,
and the bartender was checking ID's, but I had a pretty good time. People
got drinks for me, and I met a lot of new people. The whole thing was about
five hours, three hours too long, and I got back to my room about 2 in the
morning with my feet killing me and tired as all hell. I am glad I went
overall, though it would have been nice to have a date. Seems like the
person I was going to ask (you know who), was asked by one of the girls I
went with and he was on duty. Oh well. Not like I've spoken to him in
forever anyhow.

Freer

Yesterday I went into DC, I had to go to the Freer Gallery on the Mall
for my Art of China class. It was a really great museum, small, so that you
felt more intimate with the art. They even had all these neolithic storage
jars on display with no glass around them. I spent about an hour there,
copying down the information on a Western Zhou Bronze and a Hongren painting
then set off for Pentagon City. I got lost on the way to the L'Enfant Metro
Station, and had to go into the department of energy for directions. I felt
like an idiot.

Finally got to the mall and just spent way too much time there, but I had to
get shoes and a top for my frat's formal tonight, so that I was late for
Stylus's poetry reading at 5. As I got off the bus on campus and was
running past the chapel to my dorm, the bells were chiming 5. Very
appropriate I thought. I ended up only being 20 minutes late, but when I got
there two people read, then it was all over. So I grabbed a soda, and snuck
out before they asked me to stay and help clean up and headed over to the
dining hall for some food.

Now I am sitting here with braids in my hair to crimp it for tonight, and
waiting for Annie to call so we can get food. Come on girl!, I hungy!

Stupid

Well, so A Knight's Tale last night.. yeah. It was interesting. Not
exactly the best movie. But the sheer stupidity of the director amused me.
He decided to use modern music throughout, so in the beginning you see
Medieval peasents singing We Will Rock You, while the entire audience cracks
up. Heath Ledger was fabulous looking though, and the guy who played
Chaucer was so amazing. He has been in nothing though, so imdb.com is
completly lacking with info on him. The best part of the movie when a girl
in the audience yelled out "I HATE THIS MOVIE!", great. Annie got a free
poster of Heath Ledger and put it above her bed, you go girl! I lurrrrveee
it!

So tonight is Art Attack, the time of year when U of M students get really
drunk and act stupid... wait a minute, sorry that's everyday.

Weird

Last week of school, fabulous. So much work to do though. All you
people who are done with classes really stink. Now you might say that I got
a longer winter break, but I had to work dude! Give a sista a break!

With that said, how come when you don't want something to happen, it
ultimately does. I was wearing my final four shirt today and when I went to
dinner I just really hoped that I would not see any basketball players cause
that would just be weird. So what happens? I see three. Of
course.

Am going to see a Knight's Tale tomorrow. It looks pretty good, Heath
Ledger is divine. Oh and Robbie is on the soundtrack, but I swear that is
not why I am seeing it. ummmmm yeah.
