Johnny Cash

I'm pretty pissed but I thought I would post anyway. Just came back from Sons and Daughters with Dawn and Jamie and I thought they were really fantastic. Consensus from the others was 'eh', but still I dug it. Oh and we took a taxi back care of Dawn, hurrah!

fyi - I LOVE CLEMENTINES

Monday was Raisin Monday and the annual foam fight in Sallies Quad. Go here for pictures.

Did anyone else hear that
Rent is finally really being made into a film and it has nothing to do with Spike Lee or Justin Timberlake? Seems the original Broadway cast is nearly all present for it. I am v. excited to hear Taye Diggs sing my favourite line of his: 'Hey you move ova, get your ass off that Range Rova!'

Mine is Yours and Yours is Mine

Deb said I had to update so here I go.

Let it never be said I am ashamed of my weaknesses:
Christmas Advent Calendar

Douglas Adams might have been right about
Dolphins (link from Sea)

Saturday I went to see the amazing singer
KT Tunstall at the Union with Jamie and Dawn. My favourite songs have to be Otherside of the World and the very beautiful Throw Me a Rope. She's a university alumn as well.

Next Saturday is
Sons and Daughters whom I saw open for Franz Ferdinand last June and are really great. Plus they have a song called Johnny Cash and how can you beat that?

Waldo (British translation: Wally)

You all can stop asking, I finally saw William in the library today. I looked over at him and think to myself, do I know that kid? Then I saw the gapping mouth of a first year girl staring at him and thought, ah right.

My contribution to the mother goddess, a pine cone set next to someone's stuffed monkey.

Steve and I in front of the spooky tree, aren't we lovely?

An up close shot of what Steve calls the Blair Witch tree.

Next to that large rock is a stone carved stairs leading down into this lush glade. Here is Steve looking at all the little objects people have left behind, I suppose as an offering? All along the rocks people have also put coins and little bobs, like fairy figurines.

Below the church, down a small path running along side the graveyard, you come to Kinaldy Burn and a large rock promontory in which there is a meter wide hollowed out stone basin. This is supposedly a place of Druid sacrifices, but that sounds like a bit of nonsense to me.

This morning Steve and I went on a little adventure. Our first stop was Dunino Church, about 15 minutes along the coast from St. Andrews. Above is a very beautiful stained glass window of St. Andrew from the church.

The tower of St. Salvator's Chapel from outside the library.

The Teletubbie hills on the North Haugh. Today was bitter cold with a northeasterly wind coming off the sea. I braved it to trek to the library for what I thought would be a very useful book. Turned out to be crap but all was not in vain, I did go to Tesco and buy some wine.

View over the mound, into town from the steps of Andrew Melville Hall. Tonight the clouds were purple.

Other Side of The World

So I haven't updated in a while, so what. Shoot me. I could lie and say that I have been in a perpetual state of mourning since the election, but I don't lie... that much. I have actually been having a wonderful past few weeks.

The day after the election I went to the Jigger with Crawford, Dawn and Sean for a couple of pints. A couple of pints led to Dawn and I going back to Sean's to finish off a bottle of liquid arse otherwise known as Buckfast. I couldn't possibly begin to think who would suggest we buy that. Certainly not myself. I stumbled home at four in the morning to five irate, weeping phone messages from home. Called home in a panic to find out they simply wanted to commiserate over the election. A little past five in the morning I begged my mom to let me go to bed and passed out until lunch the following day.

Friday night was Bonfire night so Crawford, Dawn and I went up to Steve's to watch the fireworks being set off along the beach and at Dundee across the water. Steve concocted a particularly wonderful and warm mulled wine for the evening and as is our Friday tradition, we played a bit of poker. The game lasted a mere 5 hours and ended in The Money taking it down.

Saturday Crawford was invited to a bonfire barbeque and he asked me to come along. The party started in the evening but we went early to “potter around in the garden” and help set up. The party was at the farmhouse of a woman named Mary not too far into the countryside from St. Andrews. The views from the house were wonderful, surrounded by gorgeous hills covered in mist. Mary raises chickens for eggs that she sells locally. She also has a few sheep she keeps for wool. The chickens she has aren’t ordinary chickens, some look as if they are covered in fur and others are no bigger then a man’s fist. The sheep are normal I feel I should mention, just ornery. It was a bit rainy for a proper bonfire so instead we lit a fire in a barrel (homeless person under a bridge style) and, once the party began, set off fireworks in the garden. It was one of the loveliest evenings I’ve had here.

And that was on the 6th and today is the 12th, exactly a month until my birthday. What I have been doing in-between is mainly work. It was Reading Week all this week and the hall and much of the town was deserted. It was nice to have some peace and quiet, especially on my duty night Tuesday. I got a lot done and thought a lot about my paper topics for my classes. I just need to start writing and preparing for my next presentation. I have decided that 24 is going to be a good year for me. It is double my lucky number, that must mean something.

It's That Time of Year Again

Well almost but I am just anxious...

Christmas List 2004
(affectionately know as Gimme Stuff)
  • Digital Camera - nothing flashy, just something that works well and comes out clear.
  • Deep brown cowboy boots - deal with it.
  • A USB wire for my ipod - NOT firewire, already got one of those useless things.
  • Old Testament Pseudepigrapha: v. 1 & v. 2 by James H. Charlesworth - well I got the Nag Hammadi last year, duh.

And that's it unless someone is feeling really generous and wants to get me...

  • Mini Cooper - forest green please.
  • A big check to pay off my student loans.
  • First class train ticket on trans-Siberian railroad with airfare back from Beijing.
  • Manor with two horses (min.)- one palamino, one black mustang.
  • Sailboat
