P-ARRRR-TY

Me and the Melville Crew at our last dinner Friday night.
Me, Matt, Jamie, Dawn, Carol and Crawford.

Saturday was our Pirate Party. I had a fucking blast...for the most part. Next time it is VIPs only folks so email your requests to be put on the list now or you'll be left high and dry next time.

Update: Sea's reaction to seeing these pictures was "oh help. I just saw the pirate photos... what are you people doing over there?!" I don't rightly know Sea, but we're having a damn good time doing it. And just for your information, my pirate name is Red-Handed Jen.

Nobody Said it Was Easy

I feel at times that my life is full of a thousand goodbyes.

Making new friends is a double edged sword. It's amazing when you find new people to connect with but it also means there are that many more people to say goodbye to at the end. I'm sure there's an argument in there that says that's what life is all about and makes it worth living, but my life is not a film and sometimes it just doesn't feel that way.

Sorry, I'm trying not to be depressive, it's just rainy and I'm tired. With the above being said, the memory of a wonderful goodbye can mean everything and define the friendship you had by the feelings that is evokes.

Kiril said last night that there are two types of friends, the ones that you always want around and just can't get enough of and the ones that you are always waiting to leave. There are the ones you'll know forever and the ones that pass quickly through your life. Well today I am wearing my badge of friendship and hoping I continue to be the former.

Friday the 20th the gang and company met up at Rob's new house and went down to the beach for a barbecue as a little send off for Kiril who is going home to Macedonia for the summer on Saturday.

Rob, Crawford and Kiril waiting for the flames to die down so that we could eat.

Kiril and I.

Alan, Stephanie and Lindsay.

We (I say we when actually I made a conscious decision at one point not to get involved with the cooking) put all this food on to cook but couldn't eat it fast enough so we ended up with some Cajun style vegi burgers.

Before Rob left to do his marking we tried to recreated the famous jumping picture from April.

(hmmm, let's try it again...)

but it wasn't quite the same.

There are no normal pictures.

The next night we met up at Kiril and Alan's for a little frisbee playing, beer drinking, falling (me. Twice. Including backwards off a small wall), the handing out of friendship badges and then the traipsing off into town for some pizza.

After pizza it was to The Cellar for a final pint of Guinness for Kiril in St. Andrews, and I'm not trying to be dramatic.

I'm not sure what to say at this last picture. I'll just miss you Kiril, especially knowing when I look over at you in Art History you're thinking the same thing, hugs, random singing in the street and never being quite satisfied. It won't be the same without you but here's to Barcelona 2006.

A Few Things

I finished with all my papers for this semester so I am free as can be until Monday when I promise I will start some dissertation stuff.

So lately when I breath out I get a really funny feeling in my toes. This I feel cannot be normal. Suggestions anyone?

This week's favourite band is Kaiser Chiefs. "Oh My God", "Everyday I Love You Less and Less" - genius title by the way, and "I Predict a Riot" are just amazing. So damned catchy.

Revelations

Inspired by another blog I thought that I would have sporadic segments where I reveal little things about myself. So the other night I lay in bed trying to come up with things random and funny like that I pick my nose and eat it...which I don't...that much. But I couldn't think of anything that I would be willing to part with so instead I am revealing something you may not know, but probably do, which is that:

I HAVE A VERY VIVID IMAGINATION

Very. More so then others I think. While this is all well and good it has on occasion gotten me into trouble, mostly due to me being unable to control my laughter from the images I have conjured in my head. In fact I once blacked out from laughing so much. It's true. I've never fainted or passed out or done any of those other ridiculous things but once, for an hour, I had to stick my fingers in my ears and hum to prevent myself from losing it during a concert. Apparently the singer saw me while I was doing this, stopped his show and asked if I was alright. I have no recollection of this so my assumption is that I blacked out for a wee bit. Either that or I was just really tired. And it was all over a guy patting a dog's butt.

So if you ever find me gasping for breath while you thought it was only mildly amusing now you know that in my mind students in naval uniforms really are trooping past and my friend really is marching around announcing every time he takes a crap.

Ethical Beach Party

Tonight the One World Society threw a part on the Castle Sands.

It was a really beautiful night, I love that it doesn't get dark until 11pm.

Isle of May Day

Today my fellow The Shippers and I went on a field trip to the Isle of May. The idea was to have our last The Ship class on a ship.

The ferry left at 2:30pm from Anstruther.

The island is only 5 miles away but it took us over an hour to get there. At least there were puffins flying around to keep us amused.

The Princess finally docked on the island.

Kiril, Laura and Lindsay trooping through the ruins of a 12thc. monastery looking for a place for Kiril to give his rocketship presentation.

Kiril, Lindsay and Jeremy (lecturer) inside the monastery ruins.

Kiril testing out the first prospective presentation spot.

But it was a no go.

The fog horn.

You see that cluster on the edge of the rock? Those are birds. Like thousands of them. Fascinating but in a grotesque Alfred Hitchcock sort of way.

Puffins aren't bad though.

Jeremy leading the group.

The fog horn up close.

After we roamed around for a while it was time to head to the lighthouse to see if we could find a quiet place for Kiril to give his presentation.

Luckily the maintenance guy let us in to one of the electrical rooms, away from the glare of the sun so that we could see the powerpoint.

Then is was time to leave.

One nauseating hour later we were back in Anstruther having a pint in the very appropriately named, The Ship Tavern.
