Sometimes My Tries Are Outside the Lines

I am currently so angry I could spit...on someone's head from a great height. But more on that later, right now I need to caption these pictures.

August 24th

With Laura in tow, I headed over to The Annex to catch another kick ass performance by The Hourly Radio. Opening that night, was a group called Meg and Dia (seen above). Some random old guy came up to Laura after the performance asking for a cd. Laura said, "Just because I'm Asian, doesn't mean I was in that band." The group was pretty good. The lead singer's voice was amazing, which was really the only stand-out feature.

Tonight, I actually had a chance to meet Aaron Closson from The Hourly Radio. I was a bit fan girl, but I tried not to be too stalkerish. He is so hot in person, but looks like he has a girlfriend.

August 25th

I met Matt over at the South Street Seaport to see Ted Leo. We took some shots and then had a beer chatting with friends. Ted Leo is good but his songs don't vary much. I think that is why he'll never hit it really big.

After Ted Leo, Matt and I met Happy at the Spring Street stop after she got off work. Together, we went over to the club Sol in Chelsea. Matt and Billy's friend Jackie Christie was djing the pre and post-show of the Japanese band Gevil.

The group was something I have never seen before. They were this intense punk, drum infused group with so much energy and charisma. It didn't even matter that the words were in Japanese.

The group evidently has a big following and had a legion of fans in costume, waving pom poms during the set.

Dancing with the band were the club's gogo dancers. Unfortunately, we were standing right in front of the box she was dancing on. Where is one suppose to look when a half naked girl is dancing in front of you?

The club made the male dancers dress up in pointed hats and silk pajama bottoms. They looked absurd, it was great.

It was cool knowing the dj. We got to hang out upstairs in the dj booth with Jackie and the band.

There's the lead singer looking out at all the fans still chanting below. He is intense. The after show food for the group was sushi and McDonalds chicken nuggets.

Me, Matt, Gevil singer and Happy

I caught the Gevil singer hitting on the dancer downstairs. Hope he got some, but she looked like a skank.

Speaking of skanks...

August 26th

I met Happy after work to go get a beer and some food at One and One. Matt met up with us and together we joined the ongoing pub crawl that his friend David had organised for his birthday. Greg met up with us as well at one of the best places for beer in the city, DBA. They must have over 200 to choose from. You may recall that DBA is the bar that I went to after the final World Cup game. That was not a good time, I was glad to have a fond memory of this place wash over the bitter one. Don't we all look gorgeous?

August 27th

Sunday was a rainy, rainy day. Despite the weather, I headed out to Brooklyn to meet up with Matt for the McCarren Pool party.

There was a bit of a curfuffle with getting backstage to take some pictures but eventually we were allowed in, as you can see in the above shot of Matt on the edge of the pool.

Now as to why I am so mad. That artist that I was working with to write his proposals and cover letters bailed on me. I got a nasty email from him saying he thought I was charging him too much, that I was ripping him off and after I start being honest with myself about the work I did, I should get back to him. I have NEVER been so insulted. I wrote him a calm, defiant letter back ending with the fact that he still needs to pay my invoice. You can't ask someone to do work and then not pay for it. It is the freelance equivalent of a dine and dash. People suck, as my dad told me. I worked really hard and was counting on that money. Hopefully this guy will see that what he is doing is wrong and will pay me, otherwise I have some friends who are going to help me take him to small claims court and get a lawyer to write him a letter.
