The quarter century life crisis

Worst. Week. Ever.

Did you ever have one of those weeks where if your life didn't depend on getting up everyday to make a buck, you would hide under the covers until it all went away?

If tomorrow doesn't turn into a brighter day, I will be heading into week two of the torment that has become my life.

It all started Tuesday. The story is this, guy likes girl, girl likes guy, guy leads girl on then tells girl that there is someone else epitomising the phrase- "life isn't fair."

Then Wednesday day, I go into work, at the new publishing house where I am temping in the City, and there is a publicity meeting in the morning. All is fine until my manager announces to everyone that they have hired for the position I am temping in and that the new person starts June 4th. Which means that the potential for this position to go full time is now over. I really like this job, I wanted to keep it, and now I am once again unemployed.

Fast forward to last night where I get drunkenly kicked out of my good friend's apartment and end up crying in a cab to another friend's to crash.

The icing on today's cake? Watching the rest of the people in publicity all meet for a party in the conference room right outside my window while I have yet to put anything besides black coffee into my stomach. I feel like I am 10 and trying not to get upset in class when everybody recieves a birthday invitation but me.

An Ego Boosting 2 Days

Yesterday, Matt and I were the guests on Jason Product Shop's Sirius radio program on channel 26, Left of Center.

Today, my New York travel guide comes in the mail with a big old picture of me right in there.

It's kind of awesome.

So a few days ago, Jason from the music and political blog Product Shop NYC invited Matt and I to guest host his weekly radio show on Sirius. Being the ego maniacs we are, we of course jumped at the chance.

Walking around the station was really cool. It is basically a maze of small and large studios punctuated by walls of famous signatures and banks of computers with producers typing furiously away. The front entrance has a secretary who sits against a backdrop of screens pronouncing every different channel and what is playing on each. Jason's studio is slightly smaller than my bathroom, but it made for a fun little fort-like atmosphere.

It is funny to see somebody you know suddenly go into work mode. One minute we are all chatting normally, next Jason is in full dj mode and introducing us like a pro. It was hilariously fun to crack jokes and banter knowing you are, hopefully, entertaining people. I listened to a little when I got home and thought, hey, we are actually kinda funny! I didn't talk into the mic at all clearly enough, but it was still pretty good.

This is how the show worked: we pick music ahead of time. The music along with predetermined breaks are put into the computer. We record the breaks inbetween the music. It is kind of like fill in the blanks. After Matt and I left the studio, all I wanted to be able to come back the next day and do it all over. Radio dj = awesome job.

And then also my stint with Explorer-Publishing is over and the check has cleared. The Resident's Guide to New York is complete and ready for purchase. I don't make money off of it, so feel no need to go buy a copy just for me, but if you want to take a look next time you are in the shop, I wouldn't mind that.
